The West is expansionist. We are also capitalist. these two ideas seem to be directly opposite of east asia. Communism and isolation were bigger ideas. China and Japan isolated themselves from the world in trade and cultural interactions, mostly Japan. In Russia, revolutions took place and started communism. At first it seemed to work, but now it is despised by the West. For WW2 sake, we allied ourselves with Communism to take down the Nazis and Japan. Japan for such a small nation was a great warring nation. The samurai in feudal japan were equivalent to the knights of medieval Europe. Their honor code stressed victory or death, death being suicide. Kamikaze and Bonsai charges were examples at the radical extremes they would go to. The pacific theater of WW2 was tough to fight for. MacArthur led the Americans on a brilliant campaign, ending in victory. Afterwards, he helped the Japanese rebuild. Soon after, Russia and America had disputes over Korea, splitting it. I think we should have unleashed MacArthur, but Truman felt differently. Korea was split, and is evidently different because of Communism and Capitalism. Today, they are one of our largest threats, and aren't getting any friendlier. China started off to be on the Communist side of the table, with Russia, but due to Nixon's diplomacy, they are our largest trading partner. But we also owe them loads of money. This changed their stance enough. Hong Cong has had a hard time dealing with the British, and the Opium Wars looked to have turned opinions against trading with the west. Now part of China, Hong Cong proves to be one of the most advanced areas. Russia still keeps Communism going under Putin, and appears to be aiming at Ukraine. This is embittering them with the European Union. This still seems to be a West vs. East battle. Communism isn't great, and can be conquered, but because it is so heavy on the people's minds, it will be hard to eradicate. North Korea is still trying to prove itself, but I am confident in our military superiority, even with Russia or China. Our weakness will be having to protect South Korea and Japan. Trading is great as China, Japan, India are all increasing quickly population speaking and are resourcefully stable. It will be interesting to see hat will happen.
I really like your answer Neil. You definitely went deep into your answer. I agree that Korea is a very large threat, but our military is very good. I think this is because we invest a lot of money into our military. I also agree that it would be hard to protect South Korea, Japan, and ourself in the act of a war, but we do have a strong enough military to hopefully defend them and us. Do you think we will grow more in debt if we start trading with China more because of their growing population?
